What should we eat on Janmashtami?

Significance of Janmashtami: Janmashtami is a very important festival for the Hindus. On this day birthday of Lord Krishna is celebrated. It is celebrated on the eighth day of Krishna Paksha Of Bhadra month. Lord Krishna was born in a cell on a dark night. We used to celebrated Janmashtami by doing fasting the whole day and celebrating Krishna's birthday at midnight. Krishna was the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. Krishna spread the message of love. Lord Krishna had played so many roles and protect the world from evils. On this day temples are decorated with flowers and lights.

What should we eat during fasting?

When we prepare food for our Lord it shows our devotion towards him. Krishna Doesn't need to eat anything but he accepts the love with which we are offering the food. We must use fresh food, don't include nonvegetarian or packed foods. Don't taste the food while cooking because that food is for Krishna.

The reason behind fasting is that you should devote your maximum time in chanting "Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare" so that we can get maximum benefits of such occasions Read Bhagavad Gita on the occasion of Janmashtami.

Sometimes people got confused that what should they eat on Janmashtami. Here are some tips and recipes that you can follow on your fast.

  • Include Makhane or fox nut in your fast. You can fry it and take it in your fast. You will feel energetic after taking this.
  • Include peanuts in your fast. They provide a lot of energy for you.
  • Include Thandai in your fast. It is very cool for your body. It contains a lot of calcium and proteins. You can add dry fruits also.
  • Include fruits and fruit juice in your fast. As everybody knows fruits are rich in vitamins and provides a lot of energy
  • You can make the cutlets of Singahra flour.
  • Before one day of fasting eat healthy food.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • Don't do overeating.
  • You can eat sabutdana.

Makhan Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 Cups Malai
  • 2 Tablespoon Yogurt
  • Ice cubes

Method

  • Mix Malai and Yogurt very well.
  • Keep it aside for 8-10 hours.
  • After 8-10 hours put some ice cubes and cold water in it and blend it well.
  • Then you will be able to take out Makhan from it.

Peda And Burfi Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoon of desi ghee
  • 1 Cup of milk
  • 3 cup of milk powder
  • 1/2 Cup of sugar

Method

  • Add ghee in a pan.
  • Add milk in that hot ghee.
  • Now add milk powder in it.
  • Add sugar.
  • Stir continuously on low flame till light golden color come.
  • Now the mixture is ready and you can give any shape to it that you want.
Include these things in your fast. It will provide lots of energy for you.
